Buemi increases his lead in France

Unfortunately due to some very important reasons, I was not able to watch the French round of the Formula E series.

Quick highlights. Sebastien Buemi won his fifth race of the season with only six races remaining (three double weekends). At this point he has a pretty definitive grip on the championship title with his closest competitor, Lucas Di Grassi, retiring from the race with no points. Albeit, Buemi will miss out on two of the races, so it’s not all over for Di Grassi yet.

Jose Maria Lopez achieved his first ever Formula E podium by being second. This was also DS Virgin Racing’s third podium (the other two coming from Sam Bird). Lopez too will miss the New York double race weekend.

Keeping up his recent strong streak, Nick Heidfeld drove his first consecutive (and his third over-all this season) 3rd-place podium for Mahindra.

Swedish driver, Felix Rosenqvist was 4th ahead of Buemi’s team-mate Nicolas Prost. Inaugural season champion, Nelson Piquet Jr., continued his improved scoring with a 7th place for NextEV. Venturi managed to get both their cars on points for the first time since the season opening race.

The first Formula E double-race weekend will be driven on June 10-11 in Berlin. Looking forward to that.

Championship Top-3 (6 out of 12 races):

  1. Sebastien Buemi, Renault eDams, 132 points
  2. Lucas Di Grassi, Abt-Schaeffler, 89 points
  3. Nicolas Prost, Renault eDams, 58 points
