Esteban Gutierrez replaces Ma Qing Hua at Techeetah

Ex-Haas and F1 driver Esteban Gutierrez will make his Formula E debut next week in the Mexican round of Formula E. He is replacing Chinese driver Ma Qing Hua who debuted last season.

Techeetah (former Team Aguri) achieved its first ever podium finish in the previous Buenos Aires round due to the courtesy of another ex-F1 driver Jean-Eric Vergne, who was second. The result boosted Techeetah into the Top-5 of the constructors’ championship – within striking distance of NextEV and Mahindra – and Vergne’s performance seems to indicate the team has a solid car.

Ma Qing Hua’s results have not been promising, with the driver being 12th last year at his best. For Gutierrez, his Formula E entry will probably be a chance for the Mexican driver to redeem himself as Gutierrez was kicked out of the American F1 constructor after a points-free season spent in 2016 (Gutierrez was replaced by former McLaren and Renault driver Kevin Magnussen).

Best of luck to Esteban!
