F1 / Formula E Quickie: Gutierrez moves to Formula E
Mexican ex-F1 driver Esteban Gutierrez is planning to make the jump to the electric Formula E series. Gutierrez would be making the jump to the series in the middle of the ongoing 2016-17 season (which will resume in February). Gutierrez is due to announce which team he’ll be racing for later this week.
Gutierrez drove three seasons in Formula Ones though not continuously. He drove two underwhelming seasons for Sauber in 2013 and 2014 (though to be fair, the latter was the worst season in the team’s history) and a single season under the newly debuted Haas F1 team in 2016. Esteban has only ever driven to points once on his maiden season, earning a place in my Bottom-10 F1 Drivers (2005-2015) list a while back. Gutierrez lost his Haas drive in 2017 to Kevin Magnussen.
Maybe Formula E’s will give Esteban the new boost for his career which he needs. That remains to be seen.
