F1 Quickie: Haryanto to be replaced by Esteban Ocon
The Manor F1 team has officially announced that Rio Haryanto will be replaced by French driver Esteban Ocon for the remainder of the season. Haryanto would have needed at least seven million dollars to secure his seat for the rest of the season but apparently his appeal to the Indonesian government for more money has not gone through.
Ocon is the reigning GP3 champion and will be joining Pascal Wehrlein, who already scored the team’s first point of the season in the Austrian round. Despite being replaced, Haryanto apparently is still interested to remain at Manor as their official test and reserve driver.
Update (August 11): Haryanto has been hired as Manor’s reserve driver. Alexander Rossi, who raced for the team last year and who is currently racing in the American IndyCar championship, is the team’s second reserve driver.
