Nintendo NX will be released in March 2017; but not shown at E3
Nintendo has finally released some concrete info on its planned NX platform. However, the info is simply the planned launch month for the NX. Nintendo will apparently not be demoing the platform at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) which is also quite frustrating considering some of the stuff that has come out from Nintendo recently.
A little while ago a Nikkei report projected the Wii U would only be around until the end of 2016. Nintendo never outright debunked Nikkei’s claims. Many Nintendo fans such as myself would have hoped that Nintendo would finally shed some light on its future plans and, specifically, the nature of the NX platform at E3 this summer, but as mentioned above, Nintendo plans not to do so (instead focusing on future products for the Wii U).
As for what the NX will be remains a complete mystery. People have speculated it to be anything from a replacement of the Wii U to a mobile gaming device to accommodate Nintendo’s most recent (and according to initial reports, succesful) venture into mobile apps.
My 2 cents on the matter, it’s great we know at least something about the NX now. It sucks that we still won’t know anything about it for a really long time. If it’s going to be some variant of a “gaming phone”, I’ll be hugely disappointed but also somewhat relieved since I feel the Wii U is still way too young to have its lights put out as a console.
