F1 Quickie: Alex Rossi (re-)hired as Substitute Driver by Manor
American F1 driver Alexander Rossi has landed the official substitute driver’s position at the Manor F1 team. Rossi drove for Manor in 2015 as the team’s third driver, substituting for Roberto Merhi in five races. Despite his very promising results, Manor replaced its prior drivers with new-comers Pascal Wehrlein and Rio Haryanto. However, it’s nice to see that Manor clearly values Rossi’s speed and as a result have decided to keep him along as a stand-in.
Rossi is not content with simply being a bench-warmer and will also be taking part in the American IndyCar series this year as well. Here’s hoping Rossi has a shot at another team in the future. This is technically the second time Rossi has served substitute driving duties for the Manor team. In 2014, when the team was still called Marussia, Rossi was their official driver and could have possibly made his debut following the serious accident of the late Jules Bianchi that year. However, the team raced for only one more weekend (with a single car) before going into administration for the remainder of the season.
