Up-coming Video-Game Movies (2014-2016)

Need_For_Speed_posterHere’s a brief update on some of the video-game movies coming out in the near future. A new one has been added…

  • Need for Speed (March) – The movie is coming to theatres next month. Even though I’m not a fan of the series and I was a little puzzled as to the film’s connection to the franchise, I’ll still go see it out of sheer curiosity.
  • Heavenly Sword (June) – Some PS3 slasher title is getting an animated movie this summer. It’s been pretty low-profile, but the trailer looks pretty good (albeit, exactly like a cutscene from the game). If this one reaches theatres over here, I’ll definitely go see it. This film isn’t directly related to the Ratchet & Clank and Sly Cooper movies coming out next year and the year afterwards, but it does share the same distributer (Blockade Entertainment).
  • Agent 47 (2015?) – A new Hitman movie adaption (not a sequel to 2007’s Hitman starring Timothy Olymphant). No release date on it yet, but it’s currently being shot.
  • Resident Evil: Rising (2014/2015) – Details are still sketchy on the sixth Resident Evil film. Anderson is currently doing the script (late April) and Li Bingbing is confirmed to come back for this instalment.
  • Uncharted (2014/2015) – Also sketchy on details, but a script and a director have been picked for an Uncharted movie adaption. If production starts this year, it may make it out late this year or early next year
  • Metal Gear Solid (???) – Even sketchier than the Uncharted production (but from the same production group), apparently a screenplay is currently being written, but no director is attached. Even at the earliest I think this movie wont be coming out until 2015.
  • Last of Us (???) – Sam Raimi is producing the Last of Us movie adaption with the involvement of the game’s developers. However, no real details have been given so far.
  • Ratchet & Clank (2015) – One of two animated films from Rainmaker Studios (creators of ReBoot). I don’t really know anything about this one, but if it reaches theatres I’ll definitely go see it (because video-game movie releases have gotten very evasive over here).
  • Warcraft (2015) – Still no details on the Warcraft movie, so don’t hold your breath. I don’t even know if they’re going animated or live action on this one. If this one gets off the ground, I’ll gladly go see it.
  • Sly Cooper (2016) – I know next to nothing about Sly Cooper, but this one looks interesting. Ian James Corlett is playing the lead and the early trailer looked really nice. It’s by the same people who are doing the Ratchet & Clank film. I’m hoping that movie will do good, if only so I’ll get to see this one – since it honestly seems a bit more interesting.
